Ocean Music Action raises awareness for ocean conservation by inspiring audiences
through music, art, education, and community service.
The ocean is our most precious resource. It covers 71% of our planet, produces half of the world's oxygen, helps regulate global temperatures and weather patterns, and provides the main source of food for three billion people. In addition, the ocean is a place for recreation and restoration. Studies show that being in and around water makes us happier and healthier, with greater brain function and lower blood pressure. Ocean health and human health are intertwined.
Some of the most beautiful music ever written was inspired by the ocean. We present concerts using the power and beauty of this music to draw attention to the power and beauty of the ocean. We present our multi-sensory concerts in unique settings, collaborate with local artists to enhance our message, commission diverse young composers to write new pieces inspired by their own connection to the ocean, and organize volunteer beach and waterway cleanups, lectures, and other activities centered on conservation and community-building.
Each of our concerts is paired with a volunteer waterway cleanup or other conservation activity in partnership with a local organization. This experience gives audiences and musicians the opportunity to work hand in hand toward the common goal of cleaner oceans for all. Additionally, we contribute a portion of all donations to existing conservation groups doing important work to keep our oceans healthy.
